iamC2 – Art and eye disease

iamC2 Art Division is about creating visual and metaphoric representations of the eye disease that impact many lives. Additionally, its about creating a conversation piece that will encourage awareness of eye disease and the need for continued research, early detection and prevention. The Director of Art, Jessica D Perez, interprets eye scans and the cause of eye disease into paintings. She additionally uses metaphors to represent the emotional or physical experience of losing sight. In order to make the Art a conversation piece she has added the Braille component. An interaction with the painting is best achieved when a blind and sighted person explain their interpretations to each other, enhancing the experience and embracing understanding of each others’ worlds.
